DAY 1 Depart from the city of La Paz for Tiwanaku to visit the impressive ruins of this ancient civilization, as well as the ceramics museum, which displays utensils and other objects from the village, urban, and expansion periods. Next, visit the Lithic Museum to admire carved monoliths, including the "Pachamama," the largest discovered to date. The archaeological site houses, among other features, the Akapana Pyramid, composed of seven levels; the Semi-subterranean Temple, adorned with carved heads protruding from the walls; and the Kalasasaya Temple, home to the Gate of the Sun. Each of these temples was dedicated to a different realm: the sky, the earth, and the underworld. After lunch, head to Lake Titicaca and cross the Tiquina Strait to reach Copacabana; there, walk along a path crossing pre-Columbian agricultural terraces that, despite the passage of centuries, are still used for food production. Spend the night in this town. (Lunch) DAY 2 After breakfast, cross the lake by motorboat to the Island of the Sun to visit the Yumani community, located in the southern area. There, see the stairway, the gardens, and the Inca Fountain. Also visit Pilkokaina, a structure begun by the Tiwanaku people and expanded by the Incas. Afterward, return to Copacabana to visit the basilica and admire paintings narrating the story of Tito Yupanqui—the sculptor of the image—before beginning the return journey to the city of La Paz.
